Can you use construction to build even more goodwill for an airport?
We established a clear objective when we launched a $2 billion design and construction project to upgrade and enhance Portland International Airport (PDX). While we knew construction would not be painless, our goal was to make it exceptional. We aimed to reflect our region's character, charm, wit, and quirks, demonstrating that even during challenging times, positive outcomes are possible when prioritizing people.
Here’s what we learned: We could make a meaningful impact by communicating in a friendly manner rather than in the typical airport style and by creating unexpected moments of delight in collaboration with Portland's local creative community.
